Went to Meijer early this morning to take advantage of the 1-day sale (I did tell you I was up early every morning -- sleeping in just doesn't work for me!). Anyway, I had MAJOR difficulties at check-out and the people there just couldn't have been nicer. Here's what I bought, and what happened:
Six $50 gift cards, $300. Used six $5/1 coupons and paid $270. Had to do this in separate transactions, but that was an easy $30 saved!
Four 12-packs Fresca, $7.96.
4 Bob Evans Sausage, $7.00. Used for .25/1 from the 11/7 SS.
2 Softsoap, BOGO Free, $1.59. Used .50/1 printable.
1 18 lb Tom Turkey, $19.25. Got $16.00 instant savings.
Fred Claus DVD, reg. $19.95 on price-drop to $6.99.
Jack Frost DVD, reg. $12.99 on price-drop to $6.99.
So my total should have been $34.28 with a FREE $5 gift card for buying the two DVD's. I tried to pay with one of the $50 gift cards but the machine went wonky on me. There must have been 4 Meijer employees trying to get me checked out, and finally the manager came and fixed everything. She was so incredibly nice, my order ended up costing me just $30.28 and then she gave me an EXTRA $5 gift card for all my trouble. Now that's some kind of service! So even though it was a frustrating 30-minute check-out, I came out an extra $10 ahead. My total expense was $270 but I have $280.72 in gift cards so I made a profit on this trip! Wow! I actually got all of the above FREE (except the gift cards!) and earned $10.72 for the hour I spent at Meijer. Totally worth it, if you ask me!
And if you've been keeping track, yes, that's the third turkey I've bought in the past week. Even without all the madness this morning, the turkey would have cost me just .18/lb! The turkey I bought today will go on our Thanksgiving table, while the other two go into deep-freeze for later in the winter. I make a homemade chicken soup my family goes crazy for, so they will go to good use! I'll be sure to post the recipe (have to write it down, since I kind of wing-it) next week.
