Meijer shopping - I learned something

I stopped by Meijer this morning to pick up a few things. Always better when I can go solo! I had a bunch of "FREE" coupons, and my plan was to use them with the $4.50 off $45 purchase for a great trip. Things didn't go quite as planned. Here's what I bought:

Nabisco Wheat Things STIX, $3.27, used FREE coupon that came in the mail
Nabisco Triscuit Thin Crisps, $3.27 used FREE coupon that came in the mail
Pringles Xtreme Chips, $1.33 used FREE facebook coupon
CoffeeMate creamer, $2.66, used $1.50/1 printable (no longer available)
2 Packages Whiskas Cat Food, $10.24, used two $1/1 from the 10/17 RP
2 Packages Chi Chis Flour Tortillas, $2.58, used $1/2 from the 10/24 SS
6 bottles Chi Chis Salsa, $5.94, used three $1/2 from the 10/24 SS
2 packages Hillshire Farm Turkey Sausage, $4.00 used $0.75/2 from the 10/3 RP
1 pkg Cottenelle Wipes, used FREE coupon that came in the mail
2 bags Tyson Fun Nuggets, $7.98, used two $1/1 from the 10/10 SS
1 Energizer rechargeable battery pack, $10.58, used FREE facebook coupon

I also used the $4.50 off $45.00 grocery purchase, and a 10% off any pet food at Meijer coupon that the catalina machine gave me. Used $17.10 in Walgreen's Register Rewards and 0.90 in cash for a net cost of $18.00.

So here's what happened - I handed over the $4.50/$45 first, and then all my other coupons. The coupon for the batteries, which cost $10.38, only took off $9.70. The coupon for the Pringles, which cost $1.33, only took off $1.22. I went back to the clerk and asked her about it, and she said the computers were adjusting for the $4.50/$45 coupon I used. I'm not even sure this makes sense, since the adjustments weren't even the 10% I should have saved. Hmmmmm.

I should have gone to Jewel! Still, I saved $73.71 and I think I did well anyway ☺

  1. So you saved $73 and you say the register shorted you $.78?

  2. Actually the register shorted me on a number of coupons (I just listed a few of them in my post). And I'm not complaining, just reporting so that others can be aware.
