Jewel Shopping

After CVS I ran into Jewel. I have two of those $20 store coupons to use up, since we bought the Kohl's gift cards. If I'd had a healthy household last week, I should have skipped the Meijer shopping and gone with more gift cards at Jewel. But you don't always think the clearest when one of your children is sick....you just want to get what you need and get home!

Anyway, here's what I bought today....

Four 12-pks of Dr. Pepper Cherry, $9. Used four $1/1 from the 11/14 SS.
Four bags Shopper's Value Chips (Gluten-Free!), $5.00.
Two bags Food Should Taste Good Chips, $5.00. Used two FREE facebook coupons (no longer available).
Two bags Fresh Express Salad, $1.38. Used two .55 printables from here.
Two Old Orchard Apple Juice, $2.58. Used two .50 printables from here.
8 lbs Oranges, $3.99.
Jewel White Bread, .68.
Jewel Bagels, $2.50.
Redi-Whip, $1.99. Because the kids are going back to school tomorrow.

Total was $21.77 and I paid with the $20 store coupon we got for buying gift cards and $1.77 in cash. I'm happy!

New in the Jewel Ad, Sunday 11/28

jewel

Here is the Jewel Update, direct from Rachel over at Mashup Mom.

And, here’s what’s also shiny and new for your Sunday shopping at Jewel starting 11/28.
New Catalina deals

Gift cards

Get $10 in free groceries when you buy $100 select gift cards 11/28-12/16/10. Choose: AMC, Applebee’s, Bass Pro Shops, Catherines, Fashion Bug, iTunes, JC Penney, Lane Bryant, Marshall’s, Regal Entertainment Group, Sephora, Spa Finder, TGI Friday’s, TJ Maxx.
P&G
Get $10 off your next gift card mall purchase when you buy $30 participating P&G products 11/28-12/1. I don’t care for these gift card mall ones, but… the best deal I see here (assuming Osco no preferred pricing spread, which could be wrong, which could make for a better deal):
8 Pantene for $28.00 + a Crest toothpaste for $2.50 = $30.50. Use four BOGO Pantene from the 11/28 PG and two $1.00/2 Pantene from the 10/10, 10/31, or 11/28 PG + $1.00/1 Crest from the 10/31 PG or $.75/1 Crest from the 10/10 or 11/28 PG. So that puts you at $13.50 with $10 off a gift card mall purchase back.
Nothing else is jumping out at me, but if it does, I’ll do a longer writeup/matchup later. Think of anything? Comment here.

Did you get your gift cards?

I asked my helpful husband to stop at Jewel last night on his way home from work (he goes by three of them!) to pick up a few of the Kohl's gift cards. Remember Jewel is doing a promotion -- buy $100 in gift cards and get a coupon for $20 off your next shopping trip. What a great deal! We're going to use the gift cards soon because my teen has (literally) grown about 8" in the past year and he needs a new winter wardrobe! He's taller than me!

Anyway, the gift card deal just got a little better. Kohl's is doing a promotion now -- spend $50 and get $10 in Kohl's cash, now through November 28th. So now for every $100 you spend in gift cards at Jewel, you're getting a $40 bonus ($20 at Jewel and $20 in Kohl's cash). The gift cards can also be used on-line!

The gift card promotion at Jewel goes through 11/27 (that's Saturday!). You still have time to do this deal!

And if you're interested, MashupMom has a great way to get a KitchenAid mixer at Kohl's for about $103! Just follow the link here to read her post.

Thanks, MashupMom!

Gift Card deal at Jewel

jewel

MashupMom has a great post about all the new deals at Jewel and Dominick on her site (just follow the link above). There's one deal I wanted to highlight because I think it's worthy of it's own post! You can see it in the Sunday Jewel ad at the very bottom of the last page in tiny little print.

Starting today, 11/21, you will receive a $20 coupon at checkout when you buy $100 in gift cards from iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Applebee's, Bass Pro, AMC, Kohl's, or Best Buy. The $20 certificate cannot be used to purchase gift cards, alcohol, fluid dairy (?), prescriptions, or services. Limit 5 coupons per qualifying purchase. Each coupon valid for 1 week from issuance and limit one $20 coupon per redeeming transaction.

This runs until at least 11/25 (Thursday), possibly longer. We shop Barnes & Noble and Kohl's regularly, so I'm going to be doing this deal! The gift cards would also make great Christmas gifts.

Thanks, MashupMom!

Stock-up shopping

Went to Jewel and Meijer this morning for some stock-up shopping. I used all the coupons I had for the Grande Tortilla chips, because $1/bag for gluten-free tortilla chips is a great price and my little GF guy has taken to having nachos for lunch. These will be gone lickety-split! Here's what I bought:

Jewel:
8 Bags Grande Tortilla Chips, $16.00. Used eight $1/1 from the 9/26 SS.
10 boxes Green Giant Veggies, $4.90 with instant $5 savings. Used one $1/2 from the $60 Dominick's booklet and two .60/3 from SmartSource.

Total was $11.17 and I paid with $10 in Wags RR's and $1.17 in cash. Total savings was $42.70.

Meijer:
Four 12-pks of Pepsi, $7.96. No coupons, but DH runs off this stuff.
17.8 lb Tom Turkey, $20.99 - $16.00 instant savings. That's .28/lb!
Four Jell-O, $2.00. Used $1/4 from the $60 Dominick's booklet.
Two Hellman's Mayo, $2.98. Used two .75/1 printables and $1.50/2 MM.
Three Ziploc Containers, $5.19. Used $1/1 from the $60 Dominick's Booklet and $1.50/2 from the 11/14 SS.
Two Ziploc Freezer Bags, $3.90. Used $1/2 from the 11/14 SS.
Two Bestlife Spreads, $1.98. Used two $1/1 printables.
10 Keebler Crackers, $20.00. Used five $1/2 from the 11/14 RP and five $1/2 MM. Will send in for the get $10 wyb 10 Kellogg's items for FREE crackers. I don't have the form yet, but a very kind-hearted friend is sending it to me!
2 Lipton Tea, $4.40. Used two .60/1 from the 11/14 RP and $1.20/2 MM.
Bunch o' bananas, $1.62.

Total was $37.52 and I got back $3.25 in cats for the Ziploc for a net cost of $34.27. I actually broke this up into two separate transactions so I could use some of my Meijer store coupons, but I accidentally gave the cashier two of the $3.00 store coupons the first time around and she used them both, no problem. I also used ALL the $1.50 mfg cats I received for the coffee deal a few days ago, no problem. Total savings $95.45!

Daily final: Net cost $35.44 (figuring I'll get $10 back from Kellogg's) with a whopping savings of $138.15. And because I'm rolling cats, my OOP was just $11.19.

Since some of you might think I'm crazy for running to different stores to save a little bit, let's do some math. It took me about 2 hrs this morning to figure out my shopping trip, cut my coupons, and do all the shopping. It will probably take you less time since most of you don't have an active 2-yr old to contend with! Two hours of time, $138.15 saved, that's about $70/hour. I never made that much when I was working as an engineer!

Note “select varieties” and check tags; usually a few, like asparagus, aren’t included. There’s $1.00/2 in the Dominick’s $60 booklet, so free veggies if you found that one, and also $.50/1 Green Giant veggies here for more free veggies. (This one hasn’t reset from the last GM deal, so if you used then you can’t print again.) Otherwise, use $.60/3 from the 10/3 GM or print on SmartSource.com and you have yourself $.30 veggies.
  • Thurs-Sat only: Butternut bread, $.99 limit 4. Use $.35/1 in the 10/3 SS.

Free (or cheap) Healthy Choice Mixers at Jewel

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, Sweet & Sour Chicken, 7.95-Ouce Bowls (Pack of 6)

I read about this deal on CW (thanks, nosnarb!) and Mashupmom. Healthy Choice Mixers are on sale for $2.50. Some people are getting as much as $2/1 on their Avenu (mine just had $1/1, limit 8). Stack with the $1/1 from the 10/24 SS and you've got some really inexpensive food! Some of you might even get overage (just make sure you have something else in your cart to cover the difference....)!

If you haven't used it before, Avenu works like an electronic coupon and the savings come off at check-out if you use your preferred card. So if you are lucky enough to get the $2/1 on the mixers, and your limit is 8, a whopping $16 will come off at check-out!

Thanks, CW and Mashupmom!

Kids and Kitties Shopping

Popped into both Jewel and Meijer this morning after breakfast with a friend. Here's what I bought:

Jewel:
10 Zone Perfect Bars, $10.00. Used ten $1/1 from the 10/31 SS.
6 Del Monte Smoothies, $6.00. Used three $1/2 I picked up at Dom's a few weeks ago.

Meijer:
2 Dozen large eggs, $1.76. Used BOGO FREE coupon from The Good Egg Project (no longer available).
2 Tidy Cat Litter, $14.98. Used two $1/1 from the 9/12 RP.
3 Friskies cat Treats, $3.00. Used $1/1 from the 9/12 RP.
2 Bag Friskies Dry Food, BOGO, $3.98. Used $1/1 from the 9/12 RP.
2 Boxes Friskies Wet Cat Food, $9.98. No coupons.
4 California Pizza Kitchen Pizzas, $10.00. Used three $2/1 printables (no longer available) and one $1.50/1 printable from here.

I just realized I probably bought one too many bags of cat treats, but I think our felines will be ok with that. Also, there are $1/1 on the Del Monte smoothies in the 8/15 RP (which makes them FREE at Jewel), but I've already used mine up.

Also redeemed my $2/$2 purchase mPerks coupon. My total at Jewel was $3.18 and my total at Meijer was was $30.90. I got $10 back ($7 for Purina, $3 for CPK) for a net cost of $24.08 and a savings of $75.90. I'm pretty happy with that! ☺

Jewel Shopping, My mistake

I was counting on that Smart Balance milk to hold us over for at least a week, but my kids won't drink it. Since I'm lactose-free, I gave the three half-gallons I got yesterday at Meijer to a friend and ran out for more milk. While I was at Jewel anyway, I thought I'd pick up a few of the sale items I saw on MashupMom.

Ended up with eight 2-ltrs of soda (0.75 after instant savings), 12 cans of vegetables (0.39 after instant savings), and the gallon of milk ($2.77, on sale). The first $5 came off no problem, but the second didn't. I'm thinking the Sierra Mist wasn't on the deal, even though I asked an employee in the soda aisle and was told it was. The guy at the register was very nice and took off the $5 for me anyway, and it wasn't until I got home that I realized what my mistake might have been.

Anyway, I used two $1/4 Pepsi coupons I picked up at Walgreen's weeks ago, $6 in Walgreen's Register Rewards, and $4.99 in cash. Total cost $10.99 with a savings of $30.76. My husband will be thrilled, as he runs on Pepsi most of the time!

Frankenberry for 0.30 at Jewel!

Jewel has their Halloween merchandise marked down as much as 75%, and today my helpful husband scored a great deal on Frankenberry cereal. The price at Jewel is just 0.80, and I sent him with a $1.50/3 any General Mills Cereals coupon from the catalina machine. Net cost, just 0.30/box. Even without coupons, this is a great deal!

And while the cereal isn't listed as gluten-free, none of the ingredients contain gluten. It does say "May contain wheat" in the allergy listing, but if you can tolerate a little bit of wheat (like me), then this cereal is just fine (just super sweet!).
DH bought this at the Jewel in East Algonquin. And if you go looking for it, don't look in the cereal aisle. You'll find it with the clearanced Halloween items in the holiday aisle☺

01 November 2010

Halloween Candy up to 75% off at Jewel!

We have three children with birthdays in the months of December and January, so I usually try to pick up some non-Halloween looking Halloween candy on November 1st. This morning I hit Jewel, where the candy was marked up to 75% off! The big 3 lb bags of Smarties were only $1.75, and large bags of theatre candy originally marked $8.99 were just $2.25.

I was only able to use one coupon (a $1/1 Hershey's kisses coupon that came from the catlina machine), but I did get a large bag of kisses for just 0.20. So much fun!
